Editor’s note: This is not sponsored content. I’m just addicted to Sephora.
If you’re even half as obsessed with Sephora as I am, you’re probably already well aware of Sephora’s semi-annual sale that gets VIB and Rouge members 20% off.
But, even if you’re just getting started in your Sephora journey, fear not! You can sign up to become an insider now and get 15% off during the sale, which runs from today through to November 15. The best part is that you can take advantage of the sale multiple times, both in-store or by using the appropriate promo code online:
- VIB and VIB Rouge: 20FORROUGE
- Insiders: INSIDER15
This is a great time to try out something new, stock up on old favourites, or get a head start on your holiday shopping. Read on for my recommendations.
If you’re looking for makeup…
I always start my makeup off with a primer. Regardless of what kind of makeup I’m wearing, I always start with the Milk Makeup Blur Stick to hide my massive pores. If I’m going full-coverage, I might also layer another primer over top, but the blur stick is always a must.
When I’m looking for a little fuller coverage from my base products, I love the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation and concealer. Although they’re matte and full coverage, they never look flaky or dull on my very-dry skin.
My favourite way to apply my base products (and to blend pretty much everything else) is with a BeautyBlender (in particular, I like the swirl one because it’s pretty). I’ve used other sponges that claim to be dupes, but none of them provide that same natural finish as the BeautyBlender, where my makeup seems to just melt into my skin.
For eyeliner, I swear by the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. True story: I was wearing this on the actual worst day of my life. Despite hours (and hours and hours) of crying (sobbing, really), my winged eyeliner was still 100% on point. Even through my trauma, I could acknowledge that that was pretty impressive.
I’m still looking for a new holy grail mascara after they changed the formulation of my previous favourite (whhyyyy!), but whichever one I choose, I’ll probably be using the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel to increase its staying power. Yes, I know that this is meant to be a brow product, but I’ve had great results layering this over top of regular mascara to prevent smudging and flaking.
If you’re looking for skin care…
The Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream is my absolute favourite moisturizer to use at night. I have naturally super-dry skin, but this leaves my skin hydrated and plump. It’s a little on the pricey side, but the results are totally worth it. I also love that the packaging features a pump, allowing you to easily dispense just a small amount of product (without a pump, I tend to go way overboard).
When I’ve had less-than-optimal sleep, I use the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra-Gel Eye Patches to soothe my eye bags and dark circles. They look a little weird while you’ve got them on, but if you pop them on while you’re having your morning coffee, you’ll be left looking much more awake than when you started.
Speaking of dark circles, I also use the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to help with my standard dark circles. I like that it has a bit of a sheen to it, which really helps to brighten things up.
If my skin is feeling even drier than usual, I put on the Sephora Collection Rose Sleeping Mask before bed. No matter what condition my skin is in that night, it always looks extra supple and radiant by the time my alarm goes off.
My lips are just as dry as the rest of my skin, so I love using the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask. They come in clear and in multiple shades, meaning that you don’t have to choose between moisturized lips and lip colour.
If you’re looking for hair care…
If you have coarse, frizzy, or damaged hair, the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil line is where it’s at. The shampoo and conditioner have made a marked difference in the health of my hair–which is no small feat considering how much I’ve been bleaching it in the past year or so. I also finish my hair every day using the dry oil spray to add a bit of shine and moisture.
If you’re looking for a little drama…
Ever since my Halloween posts, I’ve been obsessed with fake lashes. Although I can’t wear those dramatic costume ones every day, Velour Lashes has some natural-looking options for those days that you want to be a little extra.
The easiest way I’ve found to apply them is using the Sephora Collection Bulls Eye Lash Applicator, which lets you place them a lot more precisely than anything else I’ve tried.
If you want a new scent…
I’m really into travel sized fragrances because I like the portability and I also like to switch up what I’m wearing depending on my mood. Histoires de Parfum’s 1969 Travel Spray is not only beautifully packaged (I like the packaging so much that I keep it displayed with my books), but it also smells divine. I tend to favour warmer, spicier scents, and this one is no exception.
If you like warm but want something a little sweeter, I’d recommend the Commodity Gold Travel Spray. It’s like your high school vanilla perfume grew up and got kind of hot. Like the perfume equivalent of a glow up.
If you’re looking to splurge…
OK, so I’m not a huge eyeshadow person, and $40 for a single eyeshadow does seem kind of crazy. But even I have to admit that the Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow (in the shade Meteore) is a thing of beauty. You can use it on its own for a simpler look or layer it on top of other eye shadow for an extra touch of glamour. No matter how you use it, your eye makeup ends up looking like it belongs on a red carpet.
Full disclosure: I have not purchased this perfume. I did buy a body spray version (which I can no longer find on the Sephora website and frankly doesn’t compare to the real thing), but I just can’t bring myself to drop this much cash on a small bottle of perfume. That said, every time I go into Sephora, I have to stop for a spritz of Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. This perfume is like… it’s like sex in a bottle. But not just any sex and not with just anybody–really great sex with someone who’s unbelievably classy and cool and intellectual. It also has incredible staying power… which it really should given how much it costs. Even with the sale, I still can’t justify it.
Now if anyone needs me, I’ll be at Sephora getting some sweet discounts and dousing myself in perfume I can’t afford. Happy shopping!
